Students and teachers from The Community School table at an event to share about Voters Night Live.

For the past few weeks at The Community School, juniors and seniors have been learning about civics and preparing to host a unique voter engagement event on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, 6:30 p.m. at the Spokane Library Central Branch.

Junior Emily Rose describes the free event as a “Rock the Vote meets SNL-style show” featuring live music, catering, games, special guests and more.

“We're going to go over the initiatives on the ballots. We're going to go over what you're actually voting for, but we're going to do it in a fun way so that people actually get excited about voting,” Emily Rose explained.

To prepare, students at the project-based learning school met with Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs to talk about the importance of voting (and participate in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign with members of the school’s D&D Club), promoted Wednesday’s event at the Mayor’s State of the City address at The Garland Theater, and ran tech rehearsals at the library.

We’re proud of these students for participating in the civic process and helping to get others engaged and informed about voting!
