Work Expectations During Emergency School Closures

The table below describes employee work expectations during an emergency school closure. Work expectations and attendance are determined by the employee’s assigned work year schedule.

Work expectations 

Do not report to work on day(s) of emergency school closure. 

Report to work following regular assigned schedule. If emergency conditions prohibit you from reporting to work, (either at the school/site or due to transportation issues), notify your supervisor in ample time to make alternate arrangements. See “Use of leave” section.

Use of leave 

Absence from work is granted for such days with no reduction in salary or benefits. Time missed will be made up on designated weather/emergency make-up day(s) as scheduled.

Due to the emergency conditions, an employee may access emergency leave (deducted from sick leave) or vacation leave. Approval of leave is granted on a case-by-case basis.

Work year/work schedule

Less than 12-month employees. See Dates of Employment work schedules above.

Twelve-month, 260 work-year schedule inclusive of paid holidays.

Daily schedule and/or worksite assignment

May be adjusted during a closure. Supervisor will communicate detailed information for reporting to work during a closure.
