Tessera (3rd-5th grade)

Tessera is a one-day-a-week program for highly capable students in grades 3-5. Depending on where they live, students are bused to either the Libby Center, Ridgeview Elementary or Lidgerwood Elementary for Tessera.

Odyssey (4th-8th grade)

Odyssey is Spokane Public Schools full-time gifted magnet school.  Odyssey’s curriculum is accelerated in all content areas.  Since learning to play an instrument is extremely beneficial for highly capable students, Odyssey requires all students to play an instrument in band or orchestra starting in 5th grade.  Odyssey also has unique courses to meet the highly capable child’s needs like early second language learning and our Design (engineering) course.  Odyssey has unique events and opportunities that support highly capable students.

Programming Continuum

In addition to Tessera and Odyssey, the district will make a variety of appropriate services available to students who participate in the Highly Capable program. Once services are started, a continuum of services will be provided to identified students in kindergarten through grade 12.

These services may include:

  • Accelerated course work

  • Classroom grouping

  • Independent study

  • Enrichment

  • College partnerships
