School Board Vacancy

On August 14, 2024, Dr. Melissa Bedford, former director of the Spokane School Board, announced her resignation. The Spokane School Board seeks qualified candidates to fill the vacant position and encourages all interested individuals to apply.

The board is particularly committed to appointing a new member who strongly represents the diverse demographic and geographic communities within the district. The vacancy will be filled through a board appointment process, with priority screening of applicants beginning Friday, August 30, 2024.

The Board member vacancy will be filled by Board appointment. The board will accept resumes and cover letters from interested individuals starting Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024.

How to Apply

Complete and provide the following items:

  • Candidate Information Form

  • Resume

  • Cover letter that addresses your prior experience and role serving on governing boards, committees, or any involvement in school leadership activities. Candidates must also describe their commitment to public education and what they believe are the strengths and challenges in the district.

Application Timeline

  • Applications, resumes and cover letters will be accepted beginning Aug. 15, 2024. Priority screening of applicants will begin on Friday, August 30, 2024. After an initial screening on September 11, 2024, the board decided to extend recruitment efforts and the vacancy application will remain open until Friday, September 20th at 4:00pm.
