Support HEART
Annual HEART Gift Card Drive
Nov. 19 - Dec. 10, 2024
Every winter, SPS holds a gift card drive to support HEART students: SPS students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.
As of Nov. 5, 2024, SPS has identified 1,222 HEART students; 277 of them are unaccompanied youth, across grades K-12, who are not in the physical custody of a legal parent/guardian. These students may be staying in shelters, in a car, or informally with a friend or relative.
Many unaccompanied youth are not eligible to receive support from some charitable programs because of their age or because the resources cannot be accessed without a custodial adult.
With gift cards, HEART students can purchase a variety of items of their choice, and HEART staff can match students with gift cards relevant to their needs and interests to provide students with extra support and care over Winter Break.
This year’s drive begins Nov. 19 and ends Dec. 10. Here’s how you can support:
Drop off or mail gift cards to the SPS administration building (200 N. Bernard St., Spokane WA, 99201, c/o Communications Dept).
Bring a gift card to your neighborhood SPS school office.
Donate online to the HEART Trust (“select HEART Program Donations”).
Share this information about the HEART Gift Card Drive with your community! If you would like to learn more about how you can get involved, please send a message through Let’s Talk.
Ongoing HEART Support
The HEART program strives to get students all that they need to fully participate in school successfully. Many items are provided directly through schools, but some items are not. Things like soccer cleats, yearbooks, journals, and shoes are some of the items that the HEART Program works to obtain. Our HEART Trust account is the method used to pay for things above and beyond a student's basic educational needs. If you are interested in supporting this work please follow these steps:
⇒ Make a donation here by selecting “HEART Program Donations” from the dropdown menu.
