Third grade students exit a blue Spokane Transit city bus and gather on green grass under a tall tree with green leaves.

“It’s important that kids know what’s out there for them. It’s important that they know there’s so much more to life.”

Earlier this week, third grade teacher Heidi Lewis led Linwood Elementary School students on an adventure: a 40-minute city bus ride across the city for a field trip to Manito Park.

You may see a lot more elementary-age students on Spokane Transit buses this year, as teachers and students utilize the “youth ride free” fare to visit parks, libraries, businesses and other locations in Spokane.

Field trips to different destinations in our community are a great way for students to connect classroom lessons with real world applications, and using public transportation will create more opportunities for students to learn as they explore our city.
