“It’s biology, it’s ecology. And we get to go outside. That’s kind of nice.”
Ferris High School students in Daniel Henry’s Applied Field Sciences class venture outside three to five times every week – in all seasons and weather – to investigate a variety of science applications in their school’s own backyard. From mushroom hunting to bird watching, from outdoor safety to map reading and orienteering, students leave class with a better understanding of scientific principles and deeper connection to the world around them.
Applied Field Sciences is a two-semester elective Science Lab that contributes a student’s 3.0 Science credits requirement for graduation. This course is offered to 11th and 12th grade students.
