Notebook with the word 'FAFSA' written in bold with a black marker, placed next to U.S. dollar bills and a computer keyboard.

What is the FAFSA? It’s the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form that students complete to receive financial aid – like grants, scholarships, loans and work study – to help fund post-secondary education, including 2- and 4-year college, vocational training, and apprenticeship programs.

There are many documents and information needed to complete the FAFSA or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). Make sure you have the following information and documents ready …

  • A Federal Student Aid account username and password

  • Parent or spouse contributor name, date of birth, Social Security number, and email address

  • Income and asset information (if required)

  • Your parents’ SSNs (if they have one, and if you're a dependent student)

  • Family’s 2023 Tax returns

  • Records of child support received (if applicable)

  • Family’s current balances of cash, savings, and checking accounts

  • Family’s net worth of investments, businesses, and farms

If you're not sure where to begin or how to find this information, visit your High School College & Career Center and counselor for support. Other resources include STCU Financial Aid, partnering with LaunchNW and College Success Foundation to support local students’ FAFSA completion.

We’ll be sharing FAFSA Information and resources periodically to make sure students and families are connected with opportunities to help them succeed following high school graduation.
