November has kept our Career & Technical Education students busy! Check out some of the unique learning opportunities they explored in real life this fall. All of these opportunities were made possible through support from organizations that are dedicated to providing students with real life opportunities to develop career skills before high school graduation.

Sports Medicine

The Lewis and Clark High School's Sports Medicine Club hosted a free Sports Physical clinic in the Athletic Training Room. With the help of two CHAS Health physicians, LC provided 17 winter athletes with a sports physical before their practices started the following week! Thanks to teacher Tara Groves and her students for organizing this opportunity for Tigers so they can participate in gymnastics, wrestling and basketball this season.

Inland Northwest Associated General Contractors hosted a preview competition for students from NEWTech Prep, Rogers and Ferris to prepare for the SkillsUSA Regional Carpentry Competition in January. They worked with sheet metal, mastered technical hand tool skills, practiced building stairs, and used math for real-world applications. Thank you for supporting the next generation of skilled professionals, INW AGC!

For the second year, Shadle Park High School students participated in the King Arthur Baking Company’s Bake for Good program, which provides flour and materials so students can learn the art and science of baking bread. Students bake two loaves of bread – one to keep and one to share in our community. The Highlanders donated their “share” loaves to Our Place Community Outreach. Thank you, King Arthur, for supporting students in learning technical culinary skills that enrich our community!
