Dale Stopperan – better known as Mr. Dale or Grandpa Dale among students – is a retired principal, and began volunteering in his grandson’s kindergarten classroom several years ago. Although his grandkids continue to advance to different grades and classrooms, Mr. Dale finds time to volunteer to help their current and past teachers.
“Not only does he volunteer for the classes his grandchildren are in (5th and 3rd grade), but he returns to volunteer for the teachers from previous years! What a wonderful volunteer!” wrote third grade teacher Debbie Miller.
“He is unstoppable! Last year he volunteered for at least 3 teachers, multiple times a week. This year he is volunteering in my classroom twice a week and I haven’t even had one of his grandchildren for two years,” said first grade teacher Amanda Delis-Mireles.
“Every time Mr. Dale comes, he brings such a warm spirit and a huge smile on his face, he lights up our hallways with positive energy when he is out working with kids,” said fourth grade teacher Steve Staebell.
Mr. Dale was surprised with his award and gift by Principal Stefanie Heinen, as well as an appearance by his family – including, of course, his grandkids.
Thank you for all you do, Mr. Dale! We are grateful that thousands of volunteers like you dedicate their time and efforts to supporting our students every day.
