Mrs. Bresson giving practice directions on the first day.

Thank you for helping make this morning’s 1st practice safe and fun!  We had about 100 runners show up bright and early!  I know we will have a few more registrations.  I want to make sure every child on our team is receiving clear communication!

A few things to discuss with your runners tonight…

 1. The first weeks of XC are uncomfortable, this is normal.  Please chat with your child about how they will be breathing hard, challenging themselves, and will have sore muscles, this is all normal and part of the conditioning process.  Hydration, protein, healthy carbs and snacks are part of conditioning our bodies to perform well.

 2. All runners need to be listening to crossing guard parents, it is IMPERATIVE that they stop at crossings, especially 29th Ave (Comstock) and 17th (Cannon Hill).  Once stopped they need to wait for crossing guard to motion them across.  Mornings are busy with traffic and these major crossings require all cars to be stopped before runners are entering the roadway.

 3. Talk to your child about “check in check out” procedures. This morning students checked themselves in at their grade level clipboard.  When arriving, students should mark a downward slash next to his/her name… upon returning from the park, your child should mark an upward slash , creating a full X.  This is another step in our safety process of ensuring all kids return safely from the park.   WE are also asking that your child complete 7 practices before the race,  the “X” is important for record keeping along with safety measures.

 4. When leaving the gym, students need to “elbow bump” the coach at the back gym door(today they elbow bumped Mr. Syron) .

When leaving the park, ALL STUDENTS need to exit through our 5th grade TUNNEL!  We count students when leaving the gym and when they exit the tunnel at the park, these numbers need to match!  Again, SAFETY!!!

 5. When in the gym and arriving to the park, we need runners to be listening for their groups and listening to the coaches! We need your runners to know where to be and what to do!   This is also a good habit for race day.

 6. Thank you for getting your child up and out this morning!   XC is preparing your child to do hard things, showing up is the first step to their XC success!   Morning XC  is another step in preparing them for their school day, and instills a healthy habit.  Thank you for your support!
